Book Study: 5 Practices for Orchestrating Task-Based Discussions in Science

 Join a book study this fall based on “5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Talk-Based Discussions in Science”. 

Earn a stipend and up to 14 SCECHs while working with other area educators to learn how to implement high-cognitive demand tasks that promote using student work to engage in productive and meaningful classroom discussions with the 5 Practices model.

The book study will meet virtually in Google Meet, for six one-hour sessions (4:30-5:30 EST) and a ninety-minute post-implementation session:

  • September 19, 2023 Introduction & Chapter 1
  • September 26, 2023 Chapter 2
  • October 3, 2023 Chapter 3
  • October 10, 2023 Chapter 4
  • October 17, 2023 Chapters 5 & 6
  • October 24, 2023 Chapter 7 and next steps
  • December 5, 2023 Optional Help Session
  • February 6, 2024 Post Implementation Meeting

After completing the book study, participants will implement what they have learned in their classrooms.
