Western U.P. Maker Challenge 2020 Winners
During May and June, K-12 students from Houghton, Baraga, Keweenaw, Ontonagon and Gogebic Counties were invited to participate in the Western Upper Peninsula’s Maker Challenge. Students could choose from one of four Maker Challenges to actively involve them in the design thinking process. Each challenge was paired with a STEM themed book where something was built or invented by designing, planning, gathering materials, and creating. In addition to strengthening students’ literacy skills, the participants develop inquiry and problem-solving skills.

The Western UP PSTL Maker Challenge was developed to provide our local students with a fun remote learning opportunity to blend engineering design skills, express creativity and expand literacy through an interdisciplinary STEM project. We are excited to build onto this successful experience for another Western UP PSTL Maker Challenge next year!
The Western PSTL UP Maker Challenge Contest was Sponsored and Organized By: REMC1, Western UP MiSTEM Network, Copper Country ISD and Gogebic-Ontonagon ISD.
